The Fort McMurray Wildfire: One Year Later {& Big News}

Fort McMurray Wildfire

It was a little strange reflecting back to my weekend a year ago.

I went to a Paint Nite with friends, and enjoyed Sunday in the sun in my front yard. At the time I had no idea I was about to be a survivor of Canada’s worst natural disaster, or that a wildfire would have me evacuated from my hometown of Fort McMurray for an entire month.

This all occurred a mere two days before I was set to host my first ever online course as well.

Amidst the chaos and a tough year of healing to follow, I feel an immense sense of joy this week.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from this experience was about the sheer resiliency of humans. We can survive a lot, we can endure some brutal shit, and we can come out on top regardless of the overwhelming odds against us.

Each and ever day brings with it the opportunity for a fresh start. Each and every moment presents a chance to choose again, to focus on the positives, and to redesign our life to better suit our happiness needs.

Much of our life is completely out of our control, with the exception of these two things: our perception, and the thoughts we act on.

If we so choose, we have the power to find the silver lining in the darkest of days. No one else can think in our mind, no one can make us feel anything, it is only the meanings we assign events that create our reality.

So I am challenging everyone reading this to find that silver lining today.

Ask yourself:
“How can this situation serve me?”
“What can this teach me?”
“How have I grown since this event?”

I believe every moment of our life brings a glorious opportunity to grow and evolve, but growth cannot come without resistance, without hardships and obstacles. Lessons can’t be absorbed without a level of acceptance and curiosity around the event.

Whether you live in Fort McMurray or not, I guarantee you’ve had to overcome some obstacles in your life, you’ve survived some pretty overwhelming situations, and here you are. You did it. You survived. You’ve done your Spiritual Squats and you’re not stronger, wiser and better for it. It may have been difficult, but you rose to the occasion.
And for that, I applaud you.

It is now my turn to stand up and finish what I started a year ago. I have two events that I am so incredibly excited for.
On May 27th I will be hosting a wellness seminar called The Next Chapter in Fort McMurray, alongside my dear friends Heather Thomas and Gary John. We hosted a similar event in November, where we brought insight and inspiration to a sold out crowd. For more details on this incredibly empowering event, click here.

In June (date to be announced soon) I will also be hosting my first ever online course (again.. Lol). In this three part webinar series called the Spiritual Squat, we will be setting goals, and creating massive momentum towards our health and wellness. Unlike most fitness plans, we will be focusing on our relationship with food, creating clear goals, developing unconditional love and acceptance for ourselves and having a hell of a lot of fun while we’re at it.

As I work out the final details on that course, I will be offering a FREE three part fitness video course online, I’ll be sharing those details in the coming week. This will be our intro to the material, and will help you create the building blocks for massive transformation.

I’m so excited for the future, and all that it has too offer. Please stay tuned, and I look forward to seeing you beautiful souls either in May at The Next Chapter event or online with The Spiritual Squat.

Sending love, light & reflection,
-L.K.
