![]() I’m currently bundled up like an Eskimo, with a fresh shot of Buckley’s in my tummy. I’m sick. I don’t remember the last cold I had, definitely not this year though. I remember the day when I never would have forgiven myself for getting this way. Because, I’m healthy, and spiritual, and I believe in the Law of Attraction, so this must mean I have failed in some way. But today, I know the truth: I’m only human. {Deep sigh of relief} Yes I strive to be the healthiest, happiest, most positive human I can be, but at the end of the day, I am what I am. I’m imperfect. I’m vulnerable to colds sometimes. I make mistakes. I’m human. And that’s cool. That’s all a part of the journey. It’s all a colourful shade in the art of being human. I’m not entirely sure who is reading this. I don’t know where you are in your life. But I do know this: you’re probably human too. Better yet, I bet you’re imperfect just like me. You make mistakes, you get sick, and maybe you even forget to clean your hands after chopping jalapeños sometimes and then rub your eyes. That’s what I did today. Shit happens. {Typing through a squinted right eye haha} The thing about being human is, we have a lot to learn. We expect a lot of ourselves, but sometimes forget the simple fact that, despite our best efforts, we can’t be perfect. We may be the smartest person around, but sometimes we need to ask for help. We may be the strongest person around, but sometimes we struggle with things. We may act as though everything is amazing and perfect, but deep down we know it isn’t so. I’m here to tell you that’s ok. Life can’t be wonderful all the time, or else it would be a total bore. What would we have to talk about? What could we improve in our lives? What would we have to look forward to? Nothing. Life would be bland. Boring. Vanilla. We don’t want that all the time. What we do want (on an existential level) is challenge. We want growth and evolution. We want to be stronger, wiser and better than we were yesterday. So what we could do is recognize that there are some shadows in our lives, accept that this means we are human/imperfect, and then come up with a kick ass game plan on how to turn the whole thing around. Doesn’t that sound so much better than pretending all is well, when it’s actually kind of hell? Never feel disappointed in yourself when things don’t go the way you planned. Maybe there’s an even better plan going on behind the scenes that you don’t know about yet? Did you ever think about that? Maybe this situation at hand is something you can handle on your own, or maybe you need some help. Both are fantastic options. People think that being strong means never feeling down or weak, so we hide these emotions from other people. But the most brave thing we can do is ask for help. It’s takes vulnerability and courage to reach out. Hiding isn’t strong. Neither is pretending everything is just peachy when it isn’t. Life is much too short and precious to spend it suffering in silence. You deserve all the happiness in the world. Remind yourself that we are only human, and if we have issues, then it is what it is. Our brains are wired to find danger and issues, that was an old survival tactic. So it’s only natural that we will find negative things to focus on at times. The important thing is that we don’t stay there. When we take guided action, we can face these issues head-on, and heal them. Then we are free to get back to our beautiful lives. If you’re from Fort McMurray, I happen to be a part of an amazing Wellness Seminar being hosted November 19th called The Next Chapter. We have an awesome local lineup of healers and speakers that are going to be sharing some beautiful words to help guide our community through healing from our natural disaster that happened back in May. As soon as I returned home, I knew this town needed healing. I knew there would be many people suffering, but many who wanted to appear “Fort Mac Strong”. But ignoring pain isn’t strong, being honest about your experiences is strong. Standing up and deciding you want to feel good again is strong. Trying something out of your comfort zone because it might be just what you need to move on is strong. If you’re reading this, I really hope you’ll join us. It’s going to be an amazing afternoon full of love, guidance and healing. I’ve posted the information below. I can’t think of a better investment in your well-being than this event. It is going to be incredible. I can’t wait to meet you all in November! To grab your tickets, click here. Sending love, light and healing, -L.K. |
