Ask L.K.: How to Deal With Life When It's a Shit Show

This week L.K. took a couple questions from Instagram for this week's blog:

  1. How do you accept criticism without getting your feelings hurt, especially if it's true?
  2. How do you find happiness when your life seems totally shitty?

Many questions reflect the same concepts as answers, and these are no exception. At the end of the day we cannot control 90% of the things that happen in our lives, but our perception is not one of those things.

When we remove our attachment to specific outcomes (like perfection, comfort, people's judgement of us, and specific circumstances) we are free to live our lives in happiness.

Unfortunately that is way easier said than done. There's two parts of our brain: the human part and the spiritual part. The human part has no time for inconvenience, "negative" emotions and discomfort. {Too bad, it's going to happen anyways hehe} The spiritual part of our brain knows that with hardship comes strength, growth and evolution. Staying grounded in that state of mind, or reminding ourselves to return as soon as we catch ourselves straying, is a simple way to limit the effect of unfortunate surprises in our lives.

Accepting struggles as an essential part of life, and one that can teach us great lessons, is where we find our superpower. We become capable of nourishing ourselves through any situation: good or bad. We become almost indestructible, because what can get us down when we fully surrender to all of the experiences life sends our way.

We won't be perfect. We will have off days. We will commit to being in a shitty mood even when we know we have a choice. We will choose fear over love, and fall back into old habits often. But we will catch ourselves, ground ourselves, and find a way back to gratitude for the blessing that is life.

The only people on this planet without issues live in the graveyard. If you're alive, you've got problems that need solving. Struggle is the spice of life. It keeps our day interesting, it gives us variety, and it gives us purpose. We are faced with adversity, we overcome it, and we get better because of it.

You've survived 100% of the obstacles you've faced thus far, and whatever you're dealing with now is absolutely no exception.

Keep your chin up and your vibes high.
